Health check-up
A health check-up is a thorough preventive examination that shows where you stand health-wise. At a hotel or medical spa it is often bundled into one to three days, with a medical review.
- Duration
- 1 to 3 days
- Typical
- Blood, heart, ultrasound, lungs, body
- Insurance
- Usually private; basic GP check-ups vary by country
- Suits
- Anyone who wants to know where they stand
Typical are a detailed consultation, blood values, blood pressure, ECG and stress ECG, ultrasound of the abdomen and vessels, lung function and a body composition measurement. Some houses also offer MRI, skin screening or sleep measurements.
The advantage at a hotel: appointments that would otherwise take weeks and several practices happen in one place. A doctor discusses the results with you, usually during your stay.
In Germany, statutory health insurance pays for a basic check-up with your GP every three years from 35. A comprehensive check-up at a hotel goes much further and is a private service.
Good to know
- Ask beforehand which examinations are included and what costs extra.
- Bring previous results so values can be compared.
- What matters is the final report you can give to your own doctor.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a check-up at a hotel cost?
It depends heavily on the scope. A compact check-up often starts in the low four figures in euros; comprehensive programmes with MRI cost considerably more. The hotel nights come on top.
Do I need to fast before the check-up?
For the blood test, usually yes. The house tells you exactly how to prepare.
